How we can help

Assault, domestic allegations and violent offences

Get advice on assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, robbery, uttering threats and criminal harassment. For serious allegations such as murder or manslaughter, an initial consultation can address custody, court dates and arranging the defence. In domestic cases, we can explain conditions that affect contact or access to the home.

Sexual offences

Get advice on sexual assault and other sexual offence allegations. We review the evidence and explain the issues raised by the charge, including consent where relevant, disclosure, release conditions and any publication ban that applies.

Weapons and firearms offences

Get advice on allegations such as unauthorized possession, careless storage, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose or use of a firearm in an offence. We review the evidence about possession, the circumstances of any search and the conditions imposed on release.

Drug offences

Get advice on possession, trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, production and importation. Depending on the allegation, the defence review may focus on search warrants, seizure of evidence and what links a person to the substance.

Property and financial offences

Get advice on theft, break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief, fraud, forgery and identity-related offences. We review documents, transactions, recordings and the evidence the Crown relies on to identify the person alleged to be responsible.

Criminal driving offences

Get advice on impaired operation, driving with a prohibited alcohol concentration, refusal to comply with a demand, dangerous operation and failure to stop after an accident. We assess the stop, any demand or testing, and related driving restrictions.

Youth criminal defence

We help young people facing charges under the youth justice system understand police contact, release conditions and court appearances. We can discuss options under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, including extrajudicial measures or sanctions where available, and explain how youth records are handled.

Arrest, bail and alleged breaches

Get advice before a police interview or after arrest, and help with bail hearings, release conditions, applications to change conditions and bail reviews. We also assist with allegations of failing to comply with a release or probation order or failing to attend court.

Disclosure and Charter issues

We review police reports, witness statements, recordings and other Crown disclosure, and identify material that may still be outstanding. Depending on the case, we assess potential Charter issues involving detention, access to counsel, search and seizure, or delay.

Resolution, trial and sentencing

We discuss available options, including diversion where eligible, a negotiated resolution, or proceeding to trial. We can prepare for motions and witness examination and assist with sentencing submissions and materials.

Appeals and next steps after court

If you want to challenge a conviction or sentence, we can discuss possible grounds of appeal, the applicable deadline and the court record needed for an assessment. We can also explain how to seek a change to probation conditions where available.

03 / Common questions

Before you get started

This page provides general information. For advice about your matter, speak with a lawyer.

What happens at a first appearance?

A first case management appearance often deals with disclosure, whether you have counsel and what comes next. Check your paperwork and the court’s directions for how and when to attend.

What is disclosure?

Disclosure is the material provided by the Crown about the case. It may include police reports, witness statements or recordings. Your lawyer can review what is available with you and identify anything still outstanding.

Can I agree with someone to change a no-contact condition?

A private agreement does not change a release condition. Follow the wording of your release documents unless the condition is formally changed, and get legal advice about the process for requesting a variation.

04 / Contact
